About Me

Hi!

I’m Melissa Nefdt, but little artists call me Miss Mel. Pleased to meet you!

My passion is for all people, but little people in particular, to feel free to express themselves artistically, without judgement or self-doubt.

When I was a little girl, I was lucky enough to go to art classes on Saturday mornings at Peter Clarke Art Centre (then Frank Joubert Art Centre), and was exposed to all kinds of artistic styles and mediums I would never have encountered otherwise. I want the same experience for all children, no matter where they are, or what their background may be.

With a career in youth training and facilitation, and a certificate in filmmaking under my belt, I created Miss Mel, a bubbly personality who enthusiastically encourages children to experiment, engage their imaginations, and get their hands (but not their clothes!) dirty.

Creative expression, experimentation with new mediums, figuring out how to realise the vision in our mind’s eye – all of these are the building blocks of the problem solving and critical thinking skills that all children need in order to face the dawn of the digital era.

Miss Mel does:

  • Arts and crafts kit boxes with instructional videos

  • School markets

  • Birthday parties and/or party packs

  • Children’s workshops and entertainment

  • Paint and sip/craft workshops for adults
